Gold miner Matsa Resources has officially started mining operations at its Devon Pit gold mine in Western Australia, with ore stockpiling under way on site and haulage to the FMR Greenfields mill expected to begin later this month.

The company said the mine setup and development have progressed rapidly since the decision to greenlight operations.

Matsa is targeting its first ore processing campaign at the Greenfields mill in mid to late September, followed by gold sales shortly thereafter.

“We are now mining ore and the project is well and truly on track to deliver and process our first ore campaign at the FMR processing plant in September, and importantly, our first gold sales,” said executive chairperson Paul Poli.

Mining operations have begun at the starter pit on the West Lode, with a second excavator expected to be deployed next week as Matsa expands into the second-stage pit, targeting both the West and Main Lodes. The company has completed staffing for all technical and operational roles, with personnel housed at the nearby Red October accommodation village.

“With the gold price at $5 000/oz, we’re expecting good things from Devon and I look forward to seeing Devon ramp up,” Poli said.

The Devon operation will run for about 18 months and is forecast to produce more than 40 000 oz of gold. The first 50 000-t parcel of ore will be hauled to the Greenfields mill beginning in late July, with a second processing campaign scheduled for December.
